The Story
Mexican gold coinage descends from the Centenario — the 50 Pesos gold piece first struck in 1921 to mark a century of independence — and continues with the Libertad, bearing the Winged Victory of the Angel of Independence monument in Mexico City with the volcanoes Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl behind her. Struck by La Casa de Moneda de México, the oldest mint in the Americas, founded 1535.
